Imagine a graveyard at night. Huge white buildings of piled graves. People everywhere, mariachi included, and best of all...: candles all around the place.
That's the setting where Marcos, the owner of the pension I'm staying in, took me to yesterday. It was the Noche de los Angelitos. Inhabitants of Peru stay on the graveyards all night. Children sell candles, others gather the wax, and make big balls of it. One kilo of wax could be sold for 2 soles, or 50 cents. The smart kids obviously put big stones inside the balls. But then again, the buyers knew some tricks to unmask them. Kids are hard to chase on a crowded graveyard though.

My 72 hour trip was extremely tiring, but before I had time to realise that, I allready found myself at a table of Almuerzo, lunch, memorizing names and trying to find my way out of the maze of the spanisch language. It went pretty well, to my own surprise.I can proudly say I allready had quite good conversations with a lot of people. But at night im pretty tired.

The food here is amazing. Laura, Marcos wife is a great cook. And she cooks two times a day. Luis, my guardian and friend, explained me that this is because Dios has given Peru an incredible biodiversity. Im totally convinced he is right. But man, they know how to prepare their biodiversity. Take ceviche for example. Well, I dont know whats inside, and how they add it up. But the taste is great. Its fish by the way. Piura is a fish city.

The Uni is gorgeous. Not only the building, but also the surrounding area. Dry, but green. Luis and Rodolfo took me on a tour. It is especially used for right and communication studies, but it has a climatological department aswell. Ive allready been introduced to the big boss and all. Appeared like a nice guy. But so does everyone here.

And guess what. Ive driven a car here today. Now if theres one thing I can tell you, driving a car in Peru is a whole different story than driving Hollanda. Moto-taxis coming from every corner, no-one appears to know who has priority and why. Hermanita, curacao is a piece of cake compared to Piura. Im definitely not going to drink and drive here.

Hope youre all enjoying yourselves over there. The sun has set here aswell, and Im about to go out for a dinner with Rodolfo, and possibly Luis. Rodolfo has been our contact person all the way, and teaches about the climate on the UDEP.

Alex, housemate, could you please drop by 105 for me and give antonio this site question mark. I lost his adress. But tell him I loved madrid. Cheers

Ciao to everyone. Did you know they say that here too. Silly Italians with their melodious language.

    dag lieve buurman :)

Het klinkt alsof je daar in peru net zo van het één naar het ander rolt als overal waar jij rondwandelt. I guess relaxt attracts relaxt :D Have fun in the sun and biodiversity!
